About The Event Everyone Communicates Few Connect - World-renowned leadership expert John C. Maxwell says if you want to succeed, you must learn how to connect with people. As project managers we connect with a diverse audience each day. And while it may seem like some folks are just born with it, the fact is anyone can learn how to make every communication an opportunity for a powerful connection. In Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, Catrina will share the Five Principles and Practices to develop the crucial skill of connecting that we can apply to our project management toolkit. About Our Presenter, Catrina Chambers "I have worked as a professional in Corporate America for the past 17 years. As a PMP certified project manager, I currently work as a Business PM in the Finance Shared Services organization at Humana. I work closely with my IT counterparts to mainly develop IT projects. The majority of my professional career has been in Information Technology. I have worked as both an Analyst and a Consultant in IT. As well as on multiple Agile projects as either a Scrum Master or a Product Owner. I am also a Certified Coach, Speaker and Trainer with the John Maxwell Leadership Team. I enjoy raising leadership lids by offering workshops, seminars, keynote speaking, and coaching, aiding with personal and professional growth. About the Event Effective management of projects or multiple project programs requires management skills and the utilization of numerous tools in areas of scoping, scheduling, progress tracking, accounting, reporting and presenting. These skills in large part can be taught and implemented by many; however, to excel in managing large projects or programs of multiple projects requires leadership that some say can be taught and others say is an art that can be honed. Scott will share his thoughts on what leadership qualities make a successful project leader, along with some specific suggestions or examples for each quality. About Our Presenter, Scott Straight Scott has worked as a professional in the power industry for 32 years, with the majority of it in project and department management. He has a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University and a Master in Business Administration with honors from Indiana University. He manages all of the major capital projects for LG&E Energy’s power generation fleet within Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas & Electric. Over the last decade he has lead and managed a department with as many as 100-plus employees to successfully implement over $7 billion in capital projects involving over 40 million man-hours of field labor with contracts valued up to $1.4 billion.

About The Event [SOLVED] Agile or Waterfall? Perhaps the most prevalent question in project management today is which project management methodology is superior, Agile (iterative) or Waterfall (traditional). In this session, Cody Jordan and Curtis Nall will answer this question. SPOILER ALERT: the answer is both. The key is knowing where, when and why each is appropriate. We will use lessons learned in seemingly unrelated disciplines to show the importance of using both, but more importantly, we will describe a principled method in selecting which methodology is most appropriate given the context of the project. About Our Presenters, Cody Jordan (PMP & Certified SCRUM Master) & Curtis Nall (PMP) Cody Jordan (PMP & Certified Scrum Master) has managed projects for ten years in both the private and public sectors. He has managed projects internationally, from the Middle East to the Pacific Rim. Throughout his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, interest in sports, studies at Appalachian State (Business - Marketing & Psychology) and professional career, Cody has taken a keen interest in how leaders make decisions, specifically as applied to project management. For as long as he can remember, Curtis Nall (PMP) has had an interest (bordering on compulsion) for figuring out how things work. While earning a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and through professional experience in Process Engineering and Project Management, Curtis has worked with some very complicated and complex systems, allowing him to study the way organizations implement and operate these systems. Curtis continues to apply insights gained working with complicated and complex systems to the field of project management.
