June Luncheon (In Person OR Virtual) - Understanding DEI

Kentuckiana Chapter Meeting – June 21, 2022

Topic: Understanding DEI

Abstract

Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) 101 for Project Managers

With so much focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), it is easy to not know where to even begin. A great place to start is by gaining an awareness and clear understanding of exactly what Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is, so you can increase the value you provide to your team members, functional areas, and company.

In this dynamic session we learn the common, yet sometimes confusing DEI terms, like bias, microaggressions, privilege, and many more, allowing us to create the right conditions for ongoing conversations and appropriate actions.  We will also discuss the DEI framework and learn how we are impacting our own brands and reputations.

Take-a-ways

  • A strong understanding of the DEI framework
  • Simple to understand and remember definitions of the most common DEI terms
  • A strong understanding of what social identities are, and why they matter
  • A strong understanding of where bias & microaggressions show up at work and their impact
