March Chapter Event: Point, Fire, Aim

Ways of Working

Many projects today operate in a point, fire, aim environment, where speed and learning take precedence over perfect plans. This presentation explores what point, fire, aim means in practice and why it is essential in fast-moving, uncertain contexts.

Participants will learn what enables success in these environments, including the right mix of people, decision-making, governance, and feedback mechanisms. The session also demonstrates how familiar PMBOK® tools can be adapted—rather than discarded—to support rapid execution while maintaining discipline.

Attendees will leave with practical insights for managing projects where action drives clarity and adaptation is critical to success.

Learning Objectives:

Define the point, fire, aim approach and identify common misconceptions about its use in project management.
Recognize the environments and conditions in which a point, fire, aim approach is most effective.
Adapt traditional project management tools and practices, including PMBOK®-aligned techniques, to successfully manage projects in a point, fire, aim environment.
