Louisville Water Tower Restoration (In-Person Only)
1 Ways of Working PDU
Abstract
Located on the scenic banks of the Ohio River, Louisville Water Tower is a National Historic Landmark. It is home to both Pumping Station No. 1 and the iconic 185-foot Water Tower – the two original facilities when Louisville Water Company began operations on October 16, 1860. Shortly after Louisville Water opened, the site became a popular destination for picnics and summer strolls. That spirit of community remains today. Every year, thousands of people visit the site to attend events and festivals, take educational tours or see the amazing architecture and beautiful view of the Ohio River.
Work to restore the Water Tower and repair the original Pumping Station No. 1 began in summer 2022. The columns surrounding Louisville Water Tower and along Pumping Station No. 1 were stripped, cracks were repaired, and statues were restored. Inside Pumping Station No. 1, work included framing new walls, painting, adding acoustic panels, and updating the WaterWorks Museum space.
