The KIPMI Project of the Year Award achieves multiple purposes:

  • Recognition for local organizations that embrace project management techniques in their project
  • Recognition for project managers and PMOs that produce outstanding results
  • Provides experience for organizations interested in applying for the PMI Project of the Year or PMI Award for Project Excellence
  • Increased engagement of KIPMI members in the local chapter
  • Sharing of project management knowledge within KIPMI

The award recognizes complex projects that best deliver:

  • Superior performance of PMBOK defined project management practices
  • Superior organizational results

Eligible

  • Project of any type, from any industry, in public or private sectors. Must meet PMBOK’s definition of a project.
  • Project management team must be based in the KIPMI region.
  • No Budget restrictions.
  • The project must have been completed no more than 18 months before the nomination deadline.
  • Companies that have an employee on the KIPMI board may be eligible, but the board member cannot be part of the submission team.

Not Eligible

  • Current PMI staff, contractors, judges and/or consultants are not eligible to apply for an award.

Number of Awards

  • There will be a 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place winners.

Application Submission Overview

  • Submit the application (link below) with the other required information as outlined in the KIPMI Project of the Year Award Submission Guidelines document.
  • All submitted material must not exceed twenty pages (two page maximum per criteria).
  • All submitted material will remain the property of KIPMI.
  • There may be more than one submission from a team or organization.
  • One Lead Nominator with whom KIPMI will communicate regarding the nomination shall be designated.
  • The Lead Nominator does not require KIPMI affiliation.

In the Event of a Successful Award

  • The KIPMI board will send the submission packages to a designated panel of evaluators, who are subject matter experts, for evaluation.
  • The nominations, evaluation process and scores are proprietary to the KIPMI board and will not be disclosed to nominators or nominees.
  • The Lead Nominator and Nominee will be notified of the status of the nomination at the conclusion of the evaluation process.
  • Selection and communication of nomination status must take place no later than October each year.
  • The first-place winner will be asked to present a case study either at a luncheon or the Christmas party in December.

 Key Dates

  • April – Announcement on the Web sites and at the KIPMI Luncheon
  • August 1 – Deadline for Submission
  • October 1 – Winners Determined
  • October 15th Event – Luncheon or PDD – Winners announced
  • December – Presentation of Project of the Year
