Introducing the
KIPMI BOOK CLUB
Benefits of a Book Club include:
- You will read (and learn) more
- You will build social connections
- You will engage in conversations that exchange ideas
- You will earn professional development units (PDUs)
The Chapter Board is excited to offer this program to our membership. We hope you will join us!
Attending a Book Club event is also an excellent opportunity to meet with and get to know Chapter members and guests. The club will meet once a quarter for 90 minutes. You can earn a total of 2 PDUs, one for reading the book and one for participating in the discussion. At this time the event will be virtual, but we hope there will be an opportunity in the future for us to meet in person, if desired.
If you have any questions regarding the book club or would like to recommend a book please email us at education@kipmi.org.
May Book Club - Thinking in Bets: Making Smart Decisions When You Don't Have All the Facts
May 26, 2022 - 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Join us in May for a lively conversation about making decisions in the face of uncertainty!
Annie Duke, a former World Series of Poker champion turned business consultant, draws on examples from business, sports, politics, and (of course) poker to share tools anyone can use to embrace uncertainty and make better decisions in her book, Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don’t Have All the Facts. For most people, it's difficult to say "I'm not sure" in a world that values and, even, rewards the appearance of certainty. But professional poker players are comfortable with the fact that great decisions don't always lead to great outcomes and bad decisions don't always lead to bad outcomes. By shifting your thinking from a need for certainty to a goal of accurately assessing what you know and what you don't, you'll be less vulnerable to reactive emotions, knee-jerk biases, and destructive habits in your decision making. You'll become more confident, calm, compassionate and successful in the long run.
Thinking in Bets can be purchased from Amazon, another online retailer, or check out your local library to borrow it.
